Every day lately I have been making a daily trek to the medicine wheel located at the far north west corner on the property of the Lotus Heart Center Retreat. There are interwoven beautiful trails that will lead you there, if you don’t get lost. I get lost easily (which can make life lots of fun) but I’m getting these trails down. Often I forage on my way back to make a really powerful, intensely nutritious superfood smoothie. You know that the healthiest foods are often found in your own backyard, don’t you?

To find out more about my smoothie and the greens I picked. you have to follow the trails with me!

Being at Lotus Heart Center is a lot different in May than it is in February. The nature sounds are loud (so amazing!) and surprisingly the nightly noisy conversation between the frogs and their friends still seems to lull everyone quickly to sleep. I sleep well, but here I sleep Really well, as does everyone. I’ve really been enjoying this period of getting back to nature and taking daily walks through the really awesome trails right on the property.

Yesterday I took photos as I walked up to the medicine wheel. The medicine wheel was built by Wind Eagle and her group, along with Andre who owns and runs Lotus Heart. There are crystals embedded in the ground at different points to enhance the energy field. I feel like the medicine wheel calls me and every day I have been taking a break so I can go sit and meditate in the wheel.

Above is one of the cabins.

Below is where the trails start and we choose which path to take..

We’ve arrived at the medicine wheel. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get here, depending on what trails we take. Grass is growing up around it so it’s hard to get a good photo of it. I have considered bring up some scissors with me, but haven’t done that yet.

There are entrances and exits to get in and out at the cardinal points. I think it is significant  which entryway you choose to come in and go out of the wheel, but I am not sure what they mean – well, actually I have my own meanings. I usually come in from the east, walk around inside the wheel clockwise 3 times (or 4), sit and meditate for awhile and then go out the south. Well, it all feels very relevant to me. and everything is everything, right?!

These are the greens I stopped and picked up on the way. It is mainly clover and dandelion leaves with sometimes a little plantain.

There were also little wild strawberry blossoms and mushrooms, so it made me think of adding berries and chaga, or other medicinal mushrooms to my smoothie.

Here is how I made my wilderness inspired superfood smoothie..
