Easiest Way to Open a Pomegranate
2012
I love pomegranates. They taste great and are so nutritious. The problem is that they are not the easiest fruit to eat. I have tried several ways to get the seeds out of them. This is the easiest, cleanest and quickest way I have found to do it.
Easiest Way to Open a Pomegranate
Get a big bowl and fill it with enough water to cover or almost cover the pomegranate, about 4 – 6 inches.
With a small paring knife cut off both ends.
Score along edges from one end to the other, cutting into the pomegranate just a bit through the skin, in about 6 places. I try to cut where the more pulpy sections are.
Put the pomegranate into the water and start pulling apart the sections.
Gently pull the seeds away from the skin and pulp. The seeds will fall to the bottom of the water and the pulp and skin will float to the top.
Scoop out the pulp from the top of the water and you are left with the seeds.
Drain the water from the seeds and that’s it. seeds ready to eat!
Pomegranate seeds make a nice topping on a leaf salad, on cereal with a banana and are great mixed in a fruit salad. They are very high in antioxidants and they can be juiced quite easily. When they are in season I go a little pomegranate crazy and I have to admit they often don’t make it into many recipes. My favorite way to eat them is just plain from a bowl.
