3 Post Workout Recovery Drinks
2012
These 3 Post Workout Recovery Drinks are based on an unbeatable combination of 2 individual superfoods, both nutritionally abundant on their own but when they are put together they work magic. This wonderful combination is coconut water and blue green algae. Put together they are a synergistic blend, in which the effect of them together is higher than taking each individually. The science between the amazing effect of the two together lies partly in this:
Blue green algae (BGA) is one of nature’s most nutritionally dense substances but the interesting thing about BGA is that its molecular structure is almost identical to that of the hemoglobin in our blood. Both have 12 atoms surrounding a 13th atom, and the only difference between them is that the 13th center atom in hemoglobin is iron, and in BGA it is magnesium.
Coconut water is extremely high in electrolytes, one of the highest natural sources available, but also its molecular structure is very similar to the plasma in our blood. Coconut water has been used in the Pacific War, amongst others, as emergency blood plasma transfusions and is still used for this in some 3rd world countries.
This awesome duo work together to zoom the nutrients directly to our cells and thus work immediately to aid in recovery.
Types of Blue Green Algae
The most common forms of blue green algae are: chlorella, spirulina and E3Live. They are similar to each other, but also have some differences. Spirulina and Chlorella are usually sold in powder or in pressed tabs. E3Live is sold flash frozen in bottles. They all have slightly different nutritional profiles and I love all 3 forms for different reasons.
I believe that E3Live may be the most powerful, but spirulina and chlorella have an ease of use as a powder and they are generally less expensive. I like to use all 3 of these and change them up. I will often purchase and use E3Live more in the winters as we don’t have our garden and I always feel a greater need for potent superfoods then.

Benefits of Blue Green Algae
By targeting hidden nutritional deficiencies and detoxifying the body, the nutrients contained in blue green algae may:
– Delay or reverse premature aging by repairing cell damage, and eliminating toxins
– Help maintain a normal appetite for both weight loss or weight gain
– Improve mental focus and concentration – by its ability to cross the “blood-brain barrier”
– Increase energy and sense of well-being
– Support the return of youthful appearance, and feelings of rejuvenation
– Boosts the immune system
– Promote the growth of stronger nails, smoother skin, and healthier hair
– Help maintain normal blood-sugar levels
– Help promote regular intestinal regularity, better digestion, and healthy intestinal flora
– Stabilizes mood swings
– Support physical health during times of healing
– Increase clarity and sharpness of eyesight
– Help promote healthy cholesterol levels
– Provide missing nutrients needed to enhance overall metabolic functioning
– Purify and nourish your blood through the healing power of chlorophyll
– Increase endurance and strength
Blue Green Algae for Athletes
The high chlorophyll content in blue green algae increases oxygen uptake. Higher oxygen intake means more fuel to muscles, which translates into improved performance and endurance. The “low molecular weight polypeptide amino acids” in blue green algae are pre-digested and easily cross the delicate blood/brain barrier, directly feeding the higher, “master” glands located deep in the brain. This may be one reason athletes who consume blue green algae report increased mental concentration.
Blue green algae is also an estimated 65% high quality protein.
Also, this one-celled organism was the first life form on earth, and as such it contains nutrition to sustain all life forms on earth! It is one of the most powerful superfoods of all.
